About

My life story in 182 words

As a middle child from a family of 10 kids, I grew up in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. Due to the influence of Christian parents and an active Christian church community, I came to faith in Christ as a young teenager, and shortly thereafter I developed a desire to serve Christ and his church in full-time ministry.

While studying for the ministry at college, I met Kimberly. Since marrying in 2004, we have served churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee as lead pastor and associate pastor. We now reside in Tennessee, where I serve as the Director of Enrollment & Marketing and Instructor of Music & Theology at Welch College. We are active in our local church here in Gallatin; I serve as the Associate Pastor for Music and Worship, while Kimberly and the kids volunteer in various capacities. Kimberly works full-time at home as a homeschool mom for our children–Aaron, Julianna, and Noah. In 2025, I hope to graduate with a Ph.D. in Church Music; my research interest is early Christian music, especially the music of Clement of Alexandria.

The Purpose of ATWD

I’ve always been a writer. I started A Thing Worth Doing in 2020 (a guy can’t sit still during quarantine, right?) as an outlet for my past writing and current projects.

My main goal is to leave something for my children. If I post an average of two 800-word posts each month for the next 50 years, I will leave behind 1 million words on a variety of topics. This is certainly a thing worth doing! While leaving this to my children, I am seeking and promoting beauty, truth, and goodness through writings about worship, culture, and ministry for the good of humankind and the glory of God.

Wondering why A Thing Worth Doing is the name of this blog?
